Birchbox June 2017 Word of Rachel

June Birchbox: Daytrippin’

The beginning of the June has spun around quicker than I care for to be honest! Where is this year going and what do you mean I’m going to be 25 next month?!?! Whilst I’m busy simply trying to figure out time travel so I can be 21 again, my monthly subscription boxes arrived! This month’s summery Birchbox wasn’t a box at all, but a lovely little Birchbag instead!

Review: Scrub Love Cacao Butter and Coconut Oil Scrubs

So a few weeks back I posted a review of a Scrub Love Activate Charcoal Scrub, and was a little on the fence about the whole thing. The scrubbing power was incredible, and gave me such a satisfying scrub. But the whole thing smelt a little… off. Being the open and honest reviewer I am, I including a lovely description of the smell. In rolls Scrub Love, the lovely people behind the scrub, to tell me that it should NOT smell the way I was describing it! They asked me to send it back and offered me a free full-sized scrub to make up for the mishap. Me being me, I chose my free one and paid for another because indecisiveness for the absolute win! So, a few days later, I sent back my smelly scrub and found myself with two new ones!

Skincare Mistakes You Might Be Making

Walk into any beauty shop or pharmacy and there will be walls and displays filled with various skin care products, each one with a different promise to cure all of your facial ‘aliments’. But these things are designed to confuse you and to be sold. It’s easy to make mistakes when sorting out an adequate skin care routine. Not to mention bloggers (yes, we must hold some responsibility here) and beauty gurus are all pushing expensive, necessary products, despite having no professional experience or qualifications (but may be being paid to push a certain product). Now, I’m no dermatologist, but I do have some relatively advanced chemistry knowledge and have been in tune with my skin care since I was 11 years old. I know a few things. A few weeks back I watched a well known Youtuber’s video on her ‘Make Off Routine’ and was appalled by what I saw; her efforts were so bad for her skin. So I’ve developed this list of things you definitely should not do if you want healthy skin.

Review: Skinny Tan Express Mousse 1 Hour Tan

I’ve heard good things about Skinny Tan, but I also found some of their claims about their products a little outrageous. Enough fake tans will claim to give you a streak free finish only to leave you bitterly disappointed. This tanner claims to leave you with no orange colouration, and apparently contains natural ingredients which work with the skin, meaning you physically cannot streak it. It also apparently leaves no nasty smells. So I went in skeptical, but more than happy to put it to the test.

Review: Glow Cult Cosmetics Unicorn Oil

Isn’t Pinterest amazing? I find most of my beauty products through it. It’s very easy to want something when you see how it looks on someone else. That’s the story with this product. When I saw a picture of a girl with perfect dutch braids and a gorgeous, shimmery, pink glow on her cheeks, I was desperate to copy her look. The fact that the product she attributed the glow was called ‘Unicorn Oil’ sold it. I clicked the link and added it to my cart before I even checked the brand!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit Word of Rachel

Worth the Hype? The Anastasia Beverly Hills x Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit

But as I eagerly awaited the arrival of my package, I started to think; Why did I want this palette so much? I did like highlighters, and in all honestly this palette probably started my obsession with them! But it was so expensive, difficult to replace and just another palette. The fact that it was impossible to get probably helped! There was such a hype surrounding this palette, to the extent that people got genuinely excited for me when I announced on Twitter I’d managed to buy one. Was it honestly going to be worth it?

Makeup Revolution, Word of Rachel, Iconic Smokey Palette, Eyeshadow, Smokey Eyes

Review: Makeup Revolution Iconic Smokey Palette

I first discovered Makeup Revolution through Instagram and fell in love with their highlighter selection, and their prices! It you want good quality makeup that doesn’t cost the Earth, or want some quality products to start a makeup journey on, I can’t recommend them enough! With that said, I recently bought the Iconic Smokey eyeshadow palette (well, 2; one for me and one for the giveaway) and have been very happy with my purchase. Not only is this a great dupe for the more expensive Urban Decay Naked Smokey palette, but the quality is fantastic for the price, and the colour selection is beautiful.

Review: Maybelline Master Strobing Liquid and Master Strobing Stick

…the recommendation of the Master Strobing Liquid stuck with me, because it wasn’t the first time I’d heard it described as a ‘Must Have’. I’m on a highlighting craze right now; I literally cannot get enough highlighters. So When I found the Master Strobing Liquid and the Master Strobing Stick, both in the same two colour selection and costing less than £5, I bit the bullet and bought one of each.
