December Favourites

As December draws to a close I’ve been hard pressed to find my favourite products. After all, Christmas brings a few new ones, and I’ve had hardly any money since October to buy anything leaving me with a surplus of products I’ve had barely any time to use and scraping around for ones I bought before the month began. Either way, I’ve managed to gather up what I’ve loved over the month of December, and having taken much better photographs than when I last tried this post, I’m ready to show you what I’ve been loving this month.

A Hidden Concealer Gem? Nip+Fab Have My Back!

I have some seriously deep set and dark circles under my eyes. They are a mix between an indigo blue and a bright, bruisey purple. Lovely! I’ve dedicated my life (or the last year or so…) to finding a concealer with some serious game to cover them up. But it’s been a bit of a lacking experience. The best ones that have been advised to me are the Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer and the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. But with each being £19, I wasn’t too keen to invest without trying every cheaper option under the sun. When I sampled some of the Nip+Fab Concealer on the back of my hand, I was impressed by the thickness of the formula. I spread a little of my sample under one my eyes, and loved the coverage! My deep set circles aren’t fully concealed, but for £8.95, it’s damn good coverage!

Blogtober – Comic Book Inspired Makeup – Day 2 – Wonder Woman!

If you haven’t seen Patty Jenkin’s Wonder Woman movie, with Gal Gadot fantastically filling the titular role, where have you been?! This is by far the best movie of the year, and is currently holding up the entire DCEU on it’s own (I’m praying that Justice League will at least be good!). As a movie about a strong female character, and directed by a strong woman, only one word can describe it for me; iconic. Don’t tell me the “No Man’s Land” scene, where Diana ignores every man telling her not to go up onto the battle field and does it anyway, didn’t invoke at least a little emotion from you. It was the first time I’d seen a female character look at a man telling her what to do and completely scorn his advice, and end up leading the men. The very first time a female character has not looked to men and asked “what do we do now?”. Yup, iconic is the perfect word.

Blogtober – Comic Book Inspired Makeup – Day 1 – Batman!

I’m secretly a huge comic book nerd, right down to the reading. I’m a firm DC comics fan (soz Marvel, you’re cool too though!) and I decided a while ago that I wanted to start creating a few makeup looks based on characters from my favourite comics. I asked on Twitter what people thought, and I got an overwhelmingly positive response with more than 90% of 33 participants saying I should do one look every day in October. So I wrote my list and got started today!
The first look is based on a very iconic character – Batman. Everyone knows who Batman is – we grew up with the animated series and one incarnation of him on the silver screen (Ben Affleck is currently doing a pretty stellar job!). Batman was an obvious first choice for me – I’m a huge fan of the batfam in general and yes; every member will be featured in this series.

June Glossybox Word of Rachel

June Glossybox: Unboxing

I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been excited for this months Glossybox! Not only does it have 2 full sized treats, but it actually has 6 products, rather than the usual 5. There’s a great mix of products, with 3 skincare products, 2 makeup products and 1 hair product. So read on to see what I got, and what I think of the products!

Birchbox June 2017 Word of Rachel

June Birchbox: Daytrippin’

The beginning of the June has spun around quicker than I care for to be honest! Where is this year going and what do you mean I’m going to be 25 next month?!?! Whilst I’m busy simply trying to figure out time travel so I can be 21 again, my monthly subscription boxes arrived! This month’s summery Birchbox wasn’t a box at all, but a lovely little Birchbag instead!

“Women are More Attractive to Men Without Makeup” – An Open Response

In the world of everyday sexism, mansplaining and women being permanently told they don’t need feminism because we already have the ability to drive, vote and get a job, I’m certainly not the only person in the world to be given a blatantly sexist comment and been forced to bite my tongue, take a step back and few deep breaths whilst figuring out how best to handle a situation. But today, sadly, I realised I may have to shut down my pointless beauty blog because it was all about exploitation, money, and was making me look less attractive to men…

Festivals 2017 – The ‘No Makeup’ Makeup Look

One of the biggest fashion looks I saw at Coachella was the boho look. I’m so happy it’s making a come back! Time for rustic, floral prints, loose fitting dresses, short denim shorts and loose, wavy hair. It’s all about naturalness. The “I woke up like this” vibe. As if you rolled out of bed, selected the first piece of crumpled up clothing from your floordrobe and waltzed out of the front door, glowing and glorious. Except in reality, it’s a carefully calculated look, pairing the right print with the right accessories and the right makeup. But in my opinion, the right makeup is the ‘No Makeup’ Makeup look.

Review: Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer

I won a Twitter giveaway recently, and the prize was a bottle of the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer. I’ve followed Too Faced for years, but have never either had the need or the money to buy any of their products. So I was suitably excited to give this product a whirl. The primer cost £27.00 and is a generous size, and is a little different to other primers I’ve used.
