Foundation Techniques: Which Applicator is Best?

I’m going to apply foundation onto my face 8 times, because I’m genuinely curious as to which technique comes out on top. I’ll be using 2 foundations; my absolute holy grail foundation (Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Foundation) and a foundation I have several issues with (L’Oreal Infallible 24hr Matte Foundation). I’ll be using four techniques for each; classic finger blending, the beauty blender, brushing with a traditional foundation brush and using an oval brush.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit Word of Rachel

Worth the Hype? The Anastasia Beverly Hills x Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit

But as I eagerly awaited the arrival of my package, I started to think; Why did I want this palette so much? I did like highlighters, and in all honestly this palette probably started my obsession with them! But it was so expensive, difficult to replace and just another palette. The fact that it was impossible to get probably helped! There was such a hype surrounding this palette, to the extent that people got genuinely excited for me when I announced on Twitter I’d managed to buy one. Was it honestly going to be worth it?

Review: Makeup Revolution Iconic Smokey Palette

I first discovered Makeup Revolution through Instagram and fell in love with their highlighter selection, and their prices! It you want good quality makeup that doesn’t cost the Earth, or want some quality products to start a makeup journey on, I can’t recommend them enough! With that said, I recently bought the Iconic Smokey eyeshadow palette (well, 2; one for me and one for the giveaway) and have been very happy with my purchase. Not only is this a great dupe for the more expensive Urban Decay Naked Smokey palette, but the quality is fantastic for the price, and the colour selection is beautiful.

The Beach Edit: The Products I Use After Scuba Diving

If you’ve read the title of this, I’ll be amazed if you decide to read on. So let me explain. You can thank the lovely Katie at Turn Loose the Swans for giving me the idea to do this post. She asked me what products I use post diving, as she needed some advice as to what products are best to be used after going to the beach. When I’m diving, I’m spending up to 50 minutes under water in salt-water lochs, and to top it off, I’m pulling my hair under a tight, neoprene hood and pressing a secure mask over my face and nose. The little areas of my face left exposed have to endure some pretty cold water. I’m also outside all day in all weather conditions so as far as extremes go, I’m pretty much the pinpoint! It takes a lot to avoid damaging my skin and hair, and so certain products must be used! So, although most of you may not be going to absolute extremes like I do, this may help you to keep your hair and skin in top shape after a full day of sand and seawater!

My First Giveaway!

For my first giveaway, I decided to choose a product which combined value with high quality, and also offered more than one use. I ended up choosing the Makeup Revolution Iconic Smokey Eyeshadow Palette. I picked up one of these for myself too, so watch out for a full review and some tutorials before the giveaway is over! The prize itself is a selection of twelve eyeshadows, mostly with a shimmer texture but also some matte shadows, in colours of brown, green, cream, blue, grey and black. It’s not only the perfect way to create a vibrant smokey eye look, but also a fairly good dupe of Urban Decay’s NAKED Smokey palette.

Review: Café Society Aberdeen

When I got back to Aberdeen, I started my search for independent coffee shops and Café Society, then called Quality Treats, was one of the first to pop up. I live right in the city centre, and this lovely café is only a five minute walk away. Shortly after my discovery, I was devastated to find the inside of Quality Treats ripped out and the branding gone. I was so sure I’d missed my chance! But after a few weeks out reopened as Café Society, and today I finally went in.

#Worldwideadventures? There’s more to traveling than that…

When I told my ex-flatmate I’d spent my summers as a child in various French towns, and had only been to Paris once, for less than a day, she shook her head and said “But that’s not really the same, is it?”. Her implication? Traveling only counts if your go a far enough distance, do only touristy things, and post filtered shots on Instagram as you do it, leaving others exclaiming their jealousy and scrambling to get enough money to copy your trip. This is however, the same girl who got angry when I went to Edinburgh a few weeks after her and did do touristy things, rather than do as she did and eat in expensive restaurants and get drunk at expensive cocktail bars. Is it really about gaining culture? Or more about one-upping the next person who dares to travel elsewhere?

Review: Maybelline Master Strobing Liquid and Master Strobing Stick

…the recommendation of the Master Strobing Liquid stuck with me, because it wasn’t the first time I’d heard it described as a ‘Must Have’. I’m on a highlighting craze right now; I literally cannot get enough highlighters. So When I found the Master Strobing Liquid and the Master Strobing Stick, both in the same two colour selection and costing less than £5, I bit the bullet and bought one of each.

April Glossybox: Unboxing and Overview

I was really impressed with this month’s GlossyBox, which features three generous sized samples and two full sized products. The first thing that struck me when I lifted off the lid was a gorgeous smell, so strong I was convinced something had leaked! But no, everything was still perfectly intact and wrapped up in it’s packaging. There’s a few brands I’ve already got products from, and some new ones, so I’m really happy with this month’s box (And I haven’t even opened up any of the products yet!).
